Lewes Elementary holds successful food drive for local pantries

December 18, 2025

Lewes Elementary School held a Fill the Pantry Food Drive Nov. 10-14.

Students promoted the effort throughout the week, and families, staff and community members dropped off donations in the school front office. Items included canned goods, boxed pasta and rice, cereal, granola bars, instant potatoes, stuffing mix and a variety of other nonperishables.

In all, students collected, counted and organized 2,232 donated items.

“My office was overflowing with generous donations by the end of the week,” said Lovell Hemphill, school social worker. “We are so grateful to all those who contributed to the drive, showing our students and the entire community what we can achieve when we come together to support a common purpose. These donations will go on to help numerous families right here in our community.”

Donations were delivered to Epworth UMC food pantry and the Community Resource Center. Both organizations assist local families with food insecurity throughout the entire year.
