Kindergarten students at Lewes Elementary School recently brought letters to life during a colorful alphabet parade that celebrated early literacy and the school-wide community.
As part of the activity, each kindergarten student selected a letter of the alphabet and created a paper bag vest featuring that letter. Students carefully decorated their vests with drawings and images that represented words beginning with their chosen letter. The project also incorporated Spanish vocabulary, highlighting the school’s Spanish language immersion program and giving students the opportunity to showcase bilingual learning. From “P” is for pato (Spanish for duck) to “R” for robot, the creative designs reflected both imagination and growing language skills.
Once their vests were complete, the kindergarteners proudly paraded through the halls of Lewes Elementary. As they visited each grade level, students and staff lined the hallways to cheer them on. At every stop, the groups joined together to sing the ABCs, creating a shared moment of celebration across the building.
The alphabet parade reinforced letter recognition and vocabulary development, in addition to building confidence as students proudly presented their work to a larger audience. The event highlighted the importance of early literacy while fostering connections between grade levels.
