Lewes man found with hundreds of ecstasy pills

February 3, 2023

A Lewes man faces drug charges after police say they found 450 ecstasy pills during a traffic stop Feb. 2.

Police on patrol saw a driver in a gold 2013 Cadillac SRX talking on his cellphone while heading north on Route 1 approaching Route 9, said Sr. Cpl. Leonard DeMalto of the Delaware State Police.

After the car pulled over in a nearby business parking lot, DeMalto said, a trooper contacted the driver, Tyler Sutton, 61, who appeared extremely nervous. Sutton did not have a license, registration or proof of insurance in his possession.

The trooper asked Sutton to step out of the Cadillac, and a drug-certified canine alerted on narcotics, which led to the discovery of 450 MDMA tablets, also known as ecstasy, stored in a plastic bag in the trunk, DeMalto said.

Police also found about $2,200 in suspected drug dealing proceeds. Sutton was detained and taken to Troop 7, and charged with felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a tier 3 quantity, possession of drug paraphernalia, and traffic offenses. Sutton was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $52,000 secured bond.
