Sponsored by the Lewes Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Lewes in Bloom, the event kicked off April 2 with the star of the show – more than 24,000 tulips and 4,000 other flowers – bursting with color thanks to the efforts of Lewes in Bloom volunteers.

While many tulips showed their colors in time for the Lewes Tulip Celebration, Lewes in Bloom organizers say the week of April 5-9 will be peak time.

Marcos Salaverria, Lewes Historical Society director of education, leads a History in Bloom tour through downtown gardens during the Lewes Tulip Celebration. The tour also included history of the First Town in the First State.

Visitors take a stroll through the Lewes Historical Society complex. Nine of the 10 buildings in the complex were moved from other locations in Sussex County.
