Lewes Wines & Spirits: Convenience north of Five Points
Several liquor stores dot the Route 1 corridor between Five Points and Dewey Beach. But Lewes Wines & Spirits is a convenient place for those traveling south on Route 1 to stop and stock up.
“This is a very good location. We not only get customers traveling on Route 1, but we also have customers who live in communities near us,” said Rahul Patel, storeowner.
Patel opened Lewes Wines & Spirit in late April, and he is continuously adding to the store’s already wide selection of beers, wines and spirits.
The store’s walk-in, self-serve cooler is stocked with cases of domestic and imported beers. Cold six- and 30-packs of beer and a selection of wine coolers, hard ciders, hard lemonades and nonalcoholic beers are an easy grab from the cooler’s five front doors.
A cooler door near the front of the store features a selection of chilled wines, sparkling wines and champagne.
“You’re not going to find more chilled wines in any store nearby,” Patel said.
Imported and domestic red and white wines share a center portion of the store that is also stocked with spirits.
Wines produced by Coppola, Cupcake, J. Lohr, Mondavi, Rex-Goliath, Woodbridge, Yellow Tail and numerous others are shelved by variety.
“I have two unique South African wines, Seven Sisters rosé and African Passion chenin blanc. Everybody doesn’t carry these,” Patel said.
The store offers 10 percent discounts on mixed or matched 12-bottle cases of wine and on any 6 bottles of wine. The store features a selection of popular domestic beers including Budweiser, Coors, Miller, Shiner and Yuengling.
The selection of craft beers is extensive and includes several Delaware-produced varieties such as Dogfish Head, Fordham, 16 Mile and Twin Lakes.
“I also have a gluten-free called Redbridge,” Patel said. Brewed by Anheuser-Busch, Redbridge contain no wheat or barley.
Among imported beers are Amstel, Chimay, Bass, Fosters, Grolsch, Guinness, Moosehead, Smithwick and several others.
The spirits section features the popular name brand vodkas, rums, whiskeys and gins, and a few craft spirits such as Tito’s Handmade Vodka and Everclear grain alcohol.
There is also a selection of top-shelf tequilas such as Patron, Cabo Wabo and 1800.
The store sells ice, soda, chips and cigarettes and has an ATM.
“As a new store I have to be competitive with everyone’s prices,” Patel said.
Store hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday; and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Patel said store hours would be extended as the season gets busier.
Lewes Wines & Spirits is at 19413 Jingle Shell Way,
Unit 7, on the southbound side of Route 1, just south of the Nassau Bridge.
