Lewes/Rehoboth major girls defeat Milton

Both teams toss no-hitters in second round

The Lewes/Rehoboth Major All-Stars squeaked out a 3-2 victory over Milton June 28 to start the District 3 softball tournament in Georgetown.

Lewes pitcher Lily Hutt allowed just three hits and two runs over six innings, striking out nine in the process. Abby Marsh went the distance for Milton, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out four.

Milena Buehler slammed a triple for Lewes/Rehoboth, picking up two RBIs, and Lily Hutt knocked a double. Alivia Heers and Katrinia Vailorosi added singles to the book.

Marsh knocked in an RBI, while Ava Calciano, Morgan Newcomb and Lydia Woods each had a hit for Milton.

Milton rebounded from the loss with a no-hit, 11-1 victory over Nanticoke June 29 in Roxana.

Woods didn’t allow a hit over three and a third innings, striking out three. 

Woods went 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple and two RBIs. Brianna Windish went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Marsh went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Calciano went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Abi Crouch went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Newcomb went 2-for-2 with a double. Lexi Sanger went 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Milton blew the game open in the second inning, scoring seven runs. They were flawless in the field, not committing a single error. Milton had seven stolen bases in the victory.

In the winners’ bracket, Hutt delivered a no-hit performance in the Lewes/Rehoboth 10-0 victory over Georgetown June 29. She threw five innings, allowing no hits and striking out 11 batters. She also helped her team out at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs.

Heers went yard in the first inning to set the tone for the mercy rule victory. She also added a double to her game resume. Buehler went 3-for-4 in the game, driving in a run. Bri Sordi went 1-for-3, while Mallory Kauffman went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Vailorosi added a hit. 

Milton was eliminated from the competition June 30 with a 16-1 loss to Lower Sussex. Woods, Newcomb and Calciano each had a hit for the Milton squad with Woods picking up the only RBI.

Lower Sussex scored 13 in the first inning and had 11 hits in the game.

Lewes/Rehoboth will look to advance to the finals Monday, July 1, against Laurel. Game time in Georgetown is 7 p.m.
