Library to present Shakespeare, history and Broadway events

July 3, 2025

The Lewes Public Library’s SummerScape 2025 live performance series continues at 7 p.m., Wednesdays, in its new outdoor pavilion at 111 Adams Ave., Lewes.

Delaware Shakespeare will present its new summer festival piece, a musical adaptation of “Twelfth Night,” July 9.

For history enthusiasts, Maryland’s Harriet Tubman Museum and the Lewes Historical Society will offer engaging presentations July 16 and July 23, respectively.

Rounding out the month, historian Paul Sparrow and famed Broadway producer, director and performer Tina Maria Casamento will discuss the works and legacy of Rodgers and Hammerstein July 30. Casamento will sing excerpts from the duo’s most beloved songs, accompanied by David Libby on piano.

Additional offerings will include a performance by First State Ballet, scientific talks on marine science and artificial intelligence, and a program about the works of noted local artist Jack Lewis, who passed away in 2013 shortly before his 100th birthday.

The series will culminate with weekend performances by renowned actors Suzanne Savoy and Gerald Dickens Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 13 and 14.

“The library’s new outdoor pavilion is a dynamic performance space that helps us connect with even more members of our community,” said Rebecca Lowe, adult program director. “While registration is needed to reserve seating under the pavilion, everyone is welcome to walk up with their own chairs or blankets and enjoy the events from the patio or lawn, no reservation necessary.”
