Lighthouse canoe races return to Rehoboth Bay

Teams vie for top honors in Dewey Business Partnership event
July 13, 2022

The Lighthouse canoe races returned to Dewey Beach July 12, as local businesses participated in the fun event for the first time since the pandemic.

Eight teams, each comprising two men and two women, launched their canoes from the bayside beach of Dickinson Avenue to paddle around a marker in the bay – or in some cases, into the Rusty Rudder pier – before returning.

At the end of the race, Nalu earned top honors, Woody’s Dewey Beach came in second and the Lighthouse crew came in third. Paradise Grill, the Rusty Rudder, Schell Brothers and a second Lighthouse team also participated.

The decades-old event is sponsored by the Dewey Business Partnership, which uses proceeds from its signature fundraising event, the Dewey Gala, to fund the Arts & Fun Festival, Kids Running of the Bull and other family-friendly events.

Dewey Business Partnership’s next event is the Restaurant Olympics, set for Tuesday, Aug. 9. For more information, go to deweybusinesspartnership.com.
