Lighthouse Cove Event Center provides bayside oasis

Sunset Bar, Lighthouse Restaurant under construction in Dewey
February 27, 2020

Sunsets, bay breezes and state-of-the-art amenities await guests of the Lighthouse Cove Event Center overlooking Rehoboth Bay in Dewey Beach.

Since opening in September 2019, the bayside venue has hosted multiple events, conferences and weddings, with another 50 to 60 nuptials on the books, said General Manager Drew DiFonzo.

Brides and grooms have several packages and options to choose from, and ceremonies can be performed on the deck, bay beach or ocean beach, DiFonzo said. A 4,340-square-foot ballroom with 15-foot ceilings is designed in neutral, sandy tones, and can host up to 300 guests, but can also be broken down for more intimate events.

On the 10,000-square-foot deck, construction of the new Lighthouse Restaurant is shaping up. Set to open this summer, the restaurant will be open to the elements, but covered, DiFonzo said. A new, 30-foot-long Sunset Bar will be directly adjacent to the Lighthouse, offering a relaxed atmosphere.

The multiuse deck also functions as an outdoor stage and dining area. The deck overlooks a public baywalk and bay beach, where beach-goers will be able to rent umbrellas, paddleboards and kayaks.

Conferences, corporate retreats and meetings are also filling the books, said DiFonzo, noting that occupancy at adjacent Hyatt Place was up in January due to the large number of scheduled events that also contribute to the local economy.
