Local artist leads collaborative mural project at Love Creek

April 13, 2026

Students and staff at Love Creek Elementary School recently had an opportunity to help create a vibrant new mural thanks to a special residency with local artist Saz Ross, made possible through a partnership with Freeman Arts Pavilion.

Celebrating the beauty and character of the Love Creek community, the mural design reflects elements of the school’s coastal location and natural surroundings.

Incorporating images inspired by local waterways, wildlife and the environment, the artwork serves as a colorful and meaningful addition to the school building.

Especially significant was the hands-on involvement of the entire school community. Students in kindergarten through fifth grade, along with staff members and parents, worked alongside Ross to help paint sections of the mural.

Throughout the collaboration, students not only contributed artistically but also gained insight into the creative process, learning how a large-scale mural comes together from concept to completion. The experience provided an opportunity to foster creativity, teamwork and school pride.

“This mural is a reflection of our school and our community,” said Equetta Jones, Love Creek principal. “Having our scholars and staff play a role in creating it makes it even more special.”
