Lois Powell shares Chantels memories with First Town Club

The First Town Club of Lewes hosted guest speaker Lois Harris Powell, a founding member of The Chantels, a pop music group from the Bronx, N.Y., at its April 18 meeting at Lewes Presbyterian Church.

The Chantels enjoyed nationwide success in the United States and have been on the performing circuit for over 60 years.

Powell left the group to pursue a college education. A psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner, Powell was director of outpatient child and adolescent services at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Harrison, N.Y., retiring in 2002.  Powell later worked as a psychiatric clinician until 2008. She is also a certified reiki master and instructor.

She continues to sing and is a member of the choir at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Lewes and the Cantabile Women’s Chorus at the Milford Branch of the Music School of Delaware.
