Lord Baltimore Lions mark five years of service to food bank

February 12, 2022

The Lord Baltimore Lions Club members celebrated five years of monthly volunteer service to the Food Bank of Delaware Jan. 28.

Lord Baltimore Lions Club serves the areas of Bethany Beach, Ocean View, Millville, Clarksville, Frankford and Dagsboro.

After their morning work shift ended Jan. 28, Lord Baltimore Lions Club members celebrated their five-year anniversary of volunteering at the Food Bank of Delaware warehouse in Milford.

Since Jan. 27, 2017, a total of 24 Lord Baltimore Lions have volunteered for some food bank shifts, joining a core group of Lions who have worked through the full five years of commitment.

The Lord Baltimore Lions Club board of directors agreed May 10 of last year on a recommendation to expand the project to include an afternoon shift the second Monday of each month. Over the past eight months, Lion volunteers have staffed the Monday shift regularly to support the needs of thousands in Sussex County, especially those in the club service area who suffer from periods of food insecurity.

The Lord Baltimore Lions Club Food Bank coordinators are John Monahan and Jack Bauer. “Combating hunger is one of the five identified major world causes of Lions Club International. The need is real, so it is important that Lions volunteer in this area,” said Bauer, who volunteers every month.

“We are fortunate and grateful to the resolute Lions who have volunteered over the years and will stay with this project as we enter our sixth year of service and hopefully many more,” said Monahan.

The club also supports other programs that address food insecurity in the communities that comprise the LBLC Service Region.
