Lots of running on tap for August

July 30, 2021

August events are the close of every summer and are normally hot and humid in Delaware; however, traditionally races get a good turnout with many families vacationing in August. The road race schedule is jammed with races for runners and walkers at the beach. Here is a look at what the Seashore Striders have lined up for the month.

• 13th annual Race for the Paws 5K & 1-Mile Dog Walk …This is race No. 10 of the Seashore Striders Racing Series, which will wrap up the 31st summer for the series Saturday, Aug. 7. • The seventh annual Rehoboth Beach Firefightin’ 5K will be held at 8 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 22, leaving the firehouse on Rehoboth Avenue and turning around on the Boardwalk for an out-and-back course. • The 12th annual Sun Festival 5K, 1-Mile Walk and Biathlon will be held Sunday, Aug. 29, beginning from the Bandstand in Rehoboth Beach. The 5K will go out-and-back to North Shores, while the 1-mile walk will go south to Queen Street and back. The half-mile ocean swim 5K run will begin a half mile south or north depending on the ocean current and will exit the water at Rehoboth Avenue. Participants will then follow the same 5K course to North Shores and back. All events will go off at 8 a.m. Proceeds will benefit CAMP Rehoboth.

Live easy in Ft. Collins

In between renovating a basement and switching out tenants, I will be on a paddleboard on the Horsetooth Reservoir for a 6:30 a.m. yoga class with the goal of staying dry for the 90-minute class. This past spring I did yoga with my girls’ track team twice, as Miss Hiba put coach Gilbert Maull and I through a workout that we did not anticipate, while the girls all got a laugh at our yoga techniques. I will miss Gilbert being beside me this Friday on a paddleboard.  Next challenge is hiking to Arthur’s Rock at 6,800 feet with a 1,100-foot elevation gain. Wish me luck! Over and out!
