Lunch With a Purpose supports Food Bank of Delaware

December 27, 2025

Lunch with a Purpose supported the Food Bank of Delaware in Milford during its Dec. 3 luncheon at Baywood Greens.

Cheryl Mitchell, serving as emcee, introduced Chad Robinson, vice president of external affairs for the Food Bank, who thanked the 214 attendees for their badly needed support. Due to federal funding cuts, reduced SNAP benefits and the recent government shutdown, the Food Bank is challenged to meet the increased needs of the community. The Food Bank also had a special collection for its backpack program, which distributes a weekend’s worth of food to schoolchildren who are food insecure. It takes $300 to support this program for a child for one year.

Santa Claus was a special guest at the event, spreading Christmas cheer and offering photo opportunities with attendees.

The event raised $17,163 in cash and in-kind goods, including the backpack donations and selfies with Santa. In addition, 1,708 pounds of nonperishable food was collected.

The next Lunch with a Purpose event will be held Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the Atlantic Sands Hotel in Rehoboth Beach to benefit Champions for Children’s Mental Health. For more information, go to Lunch with a Purpose/Coastal Delaware on Facebook.
