Rylie’s Smile Black Friday 5K, held Nov. 24 along American Legion Road in Lewes, was won by Bryan Mack of Rehoboth Beach in a time of 19:05.
“My hamstrings hurt from racing on consecutive days and playing in a turkey bowl soccer game,” Bryan said. “I think at 33 I better slow down before I hurt myself.”
Satchel Paige once said: “Age ain’t nothing but a number.” That theme prevailed among the lead runners as Caroline Drunasky, 13, of Woodbridge, Va., was second overall and first female in 21:10.
Grant Wilcox, 14, of Elkton, Md., was third overall in 20:26. Mike Sewell, 54, of Lewes, won the male masters title in 20:32. Julie Stevenson, 47, of Lewes, won the female masters race in 27:08.
A total of 70 runners completed the race.
The largest age group represented in the race for both males and females was 50-59. The fastest age groups were 25-29 for males and 45-49 for females.
The next Races2Run beach race is the 13th annual Hair of the Dog 5K in Bethany Beach on New Year’s Day.
