Major changes coming to Route 1 crossovers

Closures, restrictions planned for stretch from Broadkill River to Cave Neck Road
October 24, 2025

The Delaware Department of Transportation is planning several changes to the Route 1 crossovers between the Broadkill River bridge and Cave Neck Road near Milton.

The work to reduce conflict points is set to begin Monday, Oct. 27.

Four crossovers will be completely closed as part of the project. Drivers approaching Route 1 from Hudson Road and Eagle Crest Road will not be permitted to turn northbound. They must merge into southbound lanes and make a U-turn at another crossover.

Drivers approaching Route 1 from Steamboat Landing Road, Oyster Rocks Road and Lockerman Road will no longer be able to turn southbound. Instead, they must turn north to make a U-turn at another crossover.

Additionally, some remaining crossovers will only allow U-turns from certain directions.

According to DelDOT, there have been 60 angle crashes since 2012 at Hudson Road/Steamboat Landing Road. There have been 15 angle crashes during that same period at Eagle Crest Road/Oyster Rocks Road.
