Margaret L. West, farmer, homemaker
Margaret L. West, 95, of Frankford, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015.
Mrs. West was born in Millville, May 12, 1920, daughter of the late Raymond and Emma (Tyre) Banks Sr. She was in the first graduating class at Lord Baltimore School in Ocean View in 1938. Mrs. West was a poultry farmer and homemaker.
Mrs. West’s organizational memberships focused around her love of St. George’s United Methodist Church in Clarksville. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, BYKOTA Sunday School Class and was a former member of the choir. Margaret loved working with God’s creation, whether it be growing vegetables, doing yardwork or simply pulling weeds in her flower beds. She also enjoyed cooking, canning and sewing; however her true devotion was to her family. She will be forever remembered as the matriarch of the West family, where she would lovingly be called “The General.”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, R. Edwin West; a daughter, Lorraine Steen; and her five siblings, Verdie West, Raymond Banks Jr., Pearl Robinson, Ezekiel Banks and Linda Showell. She is survived by a son, Richard E. West and his wife Sonya of Frankford; four grandchildren, William Vernon Steen IV of Chandler, Ariz., Todd Steen of Huntersville, N.C., Andrea West-McCabe of Frankford and Anita West-Werner of Frankford; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
A visitation was held Saturday, Nov. 28, at St. George’s United Methodist Church, 34281 Omar Road, Frankford, where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Interment followed in the adjoining cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Margaret’s name to St. George’s United Methodist Church at the above address or to Atlantic General Hospital, 9733 Healthway Dr., Berlin, MD 21811.
