Mary Elizabeth Moore, a hard worker

August 4, 2020

Mary Elizabeth Moore, 84, of Frankford passed away Thursday, July 30, 2020, at Harrison House in Georgetown.

Mary, also known affectionately as “Liz,” was born Nov. 30, 1935, to the late Samuel B. and Thelma E. Norwood in Philadelphia, Pa. She was the third born of 13 children. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Ralph “Benny” Norwood, Alice Fedora Jones, Grace Winston, Robert “Bobby” Norwood, Thelma “Ellen” Hicks, Charles “Plum” Norwood, Daniel “Danny” Norwood and Christina “Tina” Green.

Liz attended Hollyville School during her primary years and later attended William C. Jason Comprehensive High School in Georgetown.

Liz met the love of her life, Wabash “Bash” Moore, and they were married June 14, 1958, in Berlin, Md., at A.M.E Church by the Rev. O. L. Molock.

From her early life until retirement, Liz was not a stranger to hard work. She was employed at Sports Craft Sewing Factory in Lewes, Townsends Inc. (now known as Mountaire Farms) of Millsboro, and finally retiring from Harrison House in Georgetown.

Besides being employed outside of the home, Liz thoroughly enjoyed being at home with Bash, tending to their garden, prepping the fresh catch Bash caught after a day on the boat, and being an awesome cook. Her cooking skills were not limited for her and Bash to enjoy; they often shared their home for family gathering that included many culinary delights.

Liz’s passion went beyond the kitchen. She was an excellent seamstress and loved to do Word Finds.  Her and Bash were avid travelers. Their many journeys included, but not limited to, weekends at Camp Meeting at Pine Forge, Pa., many locations in Florida, Detroit, Mich., and Philadelphia, Pa. They even squeezed in a cruise or two.

Liz was a dedicated member of the First Millsboro Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was a member of Usher Board and Community Services Department. Her cooking skills could always be found in the kitchen of the church when prepared items were needed.

She leaves to cherish her memory soulmate Wabash Moore, godsons GeMarr Hatton (Desiree) of Drexel Hill, Pa., and DeVon Edwards of Rehoboth; three sisters, Lydia Brooks (Michael) of Salisbury, Md., Marillyn Hatton (Gene) of Dover and Naomi Winston of Cedar Hill, Texas; one brother, Ernest Norwood (Sandra) of Douglassville, Pa.; and one sister-in-law, Beverly Jackson of Millsboro; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Celebration of life service  will be held  from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 7, at St. John’s 2nd Baptist Church 26602 Mt Joy Road, Millsboro. Family and friends may visit two hours prior to service.
