Michael Edward Walls, all-around good guy

November 22, 2020

Michael Edward Walls, 71, died peacefully in his sleep, at his home in Seaford Monday, Nov. 16, 2020, after a long battle with lung disease.

Mike was born and raised on Kings Highway in Lewes and was a proud member of the Lewes High School class of 1967 where his favorite things were girls, cars and sports (in that order).  Mike held a variety of jobs during his lifetime and was retired from the Giant grocery store in Rehoboth.  He was a fixture at the deli counter, and took his job, but not himself, very seriously.  He was the consummate jokester, making everyone around him feel happy and cared about.  He was never heard to say a cross word about anyone, no matter the situation.

Mike also served on the Rehoboth Police Department for 17 years, where he delighted in giving tourists tickets for speeding through town.  He was particularly proud of the work he did with the DARE program for the youth of the area.  While at RBPD, he developed a love for motorcycles which he carried with him for the rest of his days. He loved spending his time riding in the countryside of Sussex County and was an active member in the Sussex County ABATE chapter.  Mike loved to bowl and was active in local bowling leagues for years and was a proud member of the Masons at Jefferson Lodge #15 in Lewes.  He loved written communication and would much rather write a letter than talk on the phone. He had beautiful penmanship, and his letters were long and newsy, much to the delight of his mother who, before her death, was their frequent recipient. Mike loved dogs, especially pit bulls, and we are sure, was greeted in heaven by his most beloved pittie, Chops.

He was known by his family as Mike, but also went by Michael, Lightweight and Skid by the many other friends he knew through the years.  His favorite names, though, were Dad and Pop Pop. He was a loved son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.  His passing will leave an unfillable hole in our hearts.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, William S. (Bill) Walls Jr.; his mother, Helen Myers Walls; his sisters Judi Walls Hammond and Sharon Dawson; and nephew Robert S. (Bobby) Walls Jr.  He is survived by his long-time companion, Cindy Hritz; brother Bob Walls Sr. (Jeannie) of Magnolia; sister, Cyndi Walls Martin (Pat) of Lewes; daughters Tammy Bryant of Marietta, Ga., and Laura Walls Hammond (Shane) of Frankford; son William Donald (Billy) Walls of Lewes and stepdaughter Tabitha Hritz of Harbeson.  His grandchildren include Julien Chang and Keaton Chang of Marietta, Skye Walls, Gabi Hammond and Kyra Hammond of Frankford, Owen Ricky Walls of Lewes and Aiyanna Norton of Harbeson.  Nephews include Mark Walls of Lewes, Ed Weaver of Millsboro and Tom Martin of Lewes.

Services for the family will be private.  Please visit Mr. Wall's Life Memorial and sign the online guest page at www.parsellfuneralhomes.com.

Memorial contributions are suggested to any animal shelter of your choice.
