Milford-Slaughter Neck NAACP holds Jubilee Day Service

January 28, 2018

The Milford-Slaughter Neck NAACP held its Annual Jubilee Day Service Jan. 20 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.

Jubilee Day commemorates Abraham Lincoln signing the Emancipation Proclamation Jan. 1, 1863, which is the document that freed the slaves.

The celebration included songs, reading of scripture, a reading of the Emancipation Proclamation and an address by keynote speaker Diaz Bonville. Bonville reported on his recent trip to South Korea and told stories of the unique prayers and the enormous Christian population.

His address was based on Proverbs 3:5-6 and how it relates to his life. It states, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
