Millsboro Middle Junior Optimists donate to shelter

Sussex County Crisis Housing Services receives supplies, funds
April 12, 2021

Students in Millsboro Middle School’s Junior Optimist Club presented supplies and a cash donation to a local shelter during a March 30 ceremony.

Marie Morole, executive director of Sussex County Crisis Housing Services, thanked students for their dedication to the community. Morole said the donation was especially appreciated at this time, as many of the organization’s funding streams have dried up.

Club advisor Shelley McBride said students knew many people are struggling due to the pandemic, so they requested specific items to be donated, and also raised $200 for the shelter.

Club President Ayla Steele said participation helps boost students’ self-esteem and provides for personal growth opportunities. Treasurer Lilliana Lombardi said the club serves as a training ground for future community leaders and empowers students to be the best they can be.
