Milton Attainable Housing project sent to planners

Earliest date preliminary review can begin is April 20
April 9, 2021

A mixed commercial/residential development planned for a 26-acre parcel at the corner of Route 16 and Country Road is set to head to Milton Planning and Zoning Commission for preliminary site-plan review.

Milton Attainable Housing is a project that would include 240 residential units and five acres of commercial property. The residential units would be in 14 different buildings around the property, most of which would contain 12 to 24 units each. There will be 144 multifamily units throughout the complex. Plans also call for two fountains, a park, playground, pool, two dog runs and a pedestrian pathway. The property entrances and exits would be in the front from Route 16 and in the rear on Bay Avenue.

The commercial portion of the property will be on the five acres fronting Route 16. The original idea was for four pad sites for small, commercial businesses, but that has since been changed to two future commercial areas split by the roadway leading to the residential section in the rear 21 acres of the parcel.

The preliminary review process, involving both Milton and state agencies, is expected to last about 9 to 12 months. Once the preliminary site plans are approved, the project plans would be further refined for final site-plan review. Milton Attainable Housing co-owner Preston Schell has said the earliest point for construction to begin would be the first quarter of 2022.

The soonest the preliminary review can take place is at the planners’ next meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 20, at Grace Church. However, an agenda for the meeting has not yet been released.
