Milton Town Council unanimously approved an amended site plan for the Merriweather subdivision after the developer made changes that were amenable to council.
The site plan changes, presented by engineer Carlton Savage May 4, include keeping the community's center island but with a new, elevated curb design; keeping sidewalks along the stormwater retention pond; taking out a sidewalk along Coutler Street; and making a condition that when three of the lots at the rear of the development are built upon, the homeowner will be responsible for installing sidewalks.
In regard to the island, which homeowners in Merriweather asked to keep, Savage said the main change is to the configuration to make it so large vehicles will not potentially run over it.
Council first discussed amendments to the Merriweather site plan in April, but tabled them so Savage could make requested changes.
Located at the end of Collins Street where it intersects with Coulter Street, the Merriweather subdivision has been in some stage of development since the early 2000s. The original final site plan was approved in December 2003. It then went through a series of ownership changes. Half of the eight lots were built upon, but punch-list items are still not completed for the streets to be turned over to the town. The subdivision has since been purchased by Realtor Lee Ann Wilkinson.
