Milton Town Council unanimously approved plans for C&R Electric to build a 5,500-square-foot warehouse on a vacant parcel at the intersection of Route 16 and Bennett Street.
The half-acre parcel, located adjacent to The Backyard restaurant, is zoned C-1 commercial and had been home to a bank that was recently demolished. C&R Electric, based in Glen Burnie, Md., plans to use the facility for office space and to store spare parts for jobs the company has in the Cape Region.
The project was given preliminary site-plan approval by the Milton Planning and Zoning Commission in April. During those meetings, Town Project Coordinator Tom Quass said, two nearby property owners had discussed a buffer between the warehouse and neighboring properties on the southeast corner. C&R Electric agreed to install a fence at that corner of the parcel.
Quass recommended council approve the plans because the property is in a C-1 zone and because businesses have been encouraged to go out onto Route 16, especially if those businesses have large box trucks making deliveries. He said C&R would be bringing smaller trucks to the Route 16 site to pick up materials to take to jobs. C&R plans to use the existing access point to get to the property off Bennett Road.
