Milton Elementary kicks off sports fiction unit
Second-grade students at Milton Elementary recently kicked off their sports fiction reading unit with an Olympic opening ceremony.
The celebration began with students gathering to learn fundamentals about the Winter Olympics and the traditions that bring together athletes from around the world.
Then students moved around the pod to five different classrooms, exploring the winter sports of curling, snowboarding, ice hockey, figure skating and skiing.
In each classroom, students learned about the rules, equipment and unique aspects of each sport, building background knowledge that will support their reading and comprehension throughout the unit. The interactive experience helped bring the genre to life while sparking curiosity and excitement for sports-themed stories.
