Milton lifts civil emergency

July 17, 2021

The same week that the state of Delaware lifted its state of emergency related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the town of Milton has followed suit and lifted its state of civil emergency.

Mayor Ted Kanakos rescinded the emergency order July 14, the day after Gov. John Carney lifted the statewide order.

The town’s emergency order postponed town business between April 24 and June 1, 2020. Town meetings were then resumed after June 1, with restrictions including masks and meetings livestreamed via the town website. As Delaware hit a 70 percent vaccination rate against COVID-19 this June, mask mandates were lifted for those who had been vaccinated, and at Milton Town Council’s most recent meeting July 12, the audience and council members were maskless for the first time in more than a year.

With in-person attendance at town meetings now the norm again, the town is planning to streamline its livestreaming of meetings. Town Manager Kristy Rogers said town council meetings, and potentially planning and zoning commission meetings, will continue to be livestreamed, but committee meetings will be held in person only.
