Milton wins 10-12 Pat Knight Championship

The Milton and Georgetown 10-12 Pat Knight All-Stars met June 29 with the District 3 title on the line. When the dust settled, the Milton squad had taken a 2-1 victory.
The pitching duel took the game into extra innings with a scoreless tie. That tie was broken in the top of the eighth inning, when Milton led off with a walk and an error putting two players on base. Connor Coulbourn moved the runners to second and third, and Finley Jones delivered with a base-clearing double to put the Milton squad up 2-0.
“I was expecting a fastball,” Jones said. “I had two runners on the left side, so I wanted to hit it into right field, and it worked out for me.”
Georgetown could only get one run across in the bottom of the eighth, and the Milton team took home the District 3 title.
“My curveball was really working tonight,” said Milton pitcher Connor Coulbourn. “I pounded the corners with my fastball, and when I got two strikes on the batter, I took him with the curve.”
Coulbourn struck out seven Georgetown batters, while giving up one walk. He allowed only one run on five hits.
Each team’s starting pitcher went the maximum allowed pitches in the contest, with Georgetown’s Mark Wilkins being equally impressive.
“I used my curveball a lot tonight,” said Wilkins. “But my fastball was working too.”
