The Most Rev. Frank Griswold, retired Episcopal presiding bishop, will celebrate Holy Eucharist and preach the sermon at both the 8 and 10 a.m. services at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church Sunday, Nov. 20. He will baptize Benny and Will Burton at the 10 a.m. service. Griswold will also join parishioners for a conversation in the Parish Hall at 9 a.m.

Griswold was the 25th presiding bishop and primate of the Episcopal Church.

Educated at St Paul's School in Concord, N.H., he earned a bachelor's degree in English literature from Harvard College in 1959 and attended the General Theological Seminary, later earning a bachelor's degree in theology and a master's from Oriel College, Oxford University. He also holds several honorary degrees.

He was ordained an Episcopal priest in 1963 and then served at three parishes in Pennsylvania, including St. Andrew's Church in Yardley and St. Martin-in-the-Fields in Philadelphia. Griswold served as bishop of Chicago from 1987 until he became presiding bishop in 1997. He has since served on diocesan, national and international committees for liturgy, worship and ecumenism and is interested in interfaith dialogue.

His term as presiding bishop ended in 2006, when was succeeded by the Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori, the first woman primate in the Anglican Communion.
