Nancy Dumont Turner, had insatiable curiosity
Nancy Dumont Turner, 86, of Milton, passed away suddenly in her home Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017.
Born in Philadelphia, Pa., Nancy was the daughter of Lewis Dumont and Susan Elizabeth O'Neill. She was married to the late Delbert L. Turner for 12 years and resided in Crewe, Va., before moving to the area.
Nancy was a talented seamstress and owned a bridal salon in her early career. In later years she worked as a store manager for Pic-n-Pay Shoes and as a product merchandiser for Leeming-Pacquin company.
She was an avid reader, gardener and crafter. For a number of years she had a business called Shadow Feathers, specializing in creating fine art Santa figures. She had an insatiable curiosity and never stopped learning. She served as a docent at the Milton Historical Society and participated in the Food for Thought discussion group. She loved nature and feeding the birds. Her cats were her "kids" in her retirement.
Locally she was a member of The Lutheran Church of Our Savior where she participated in the Sand Dollars group and was treasurer of The Lutheran Church Extension Fund.
A service in honor of her life will be held at the church, Bay Vista Road, Rehoboth Beach, Saturday, Aug. 26, at 11 a.m. Visitation will occur for an hour prior to the service.
Nancy was a grandmother and great-grandmother. A son, Conrad Hitchener, predeceased her. She is survived by two daughters, Jane R. Hitchener and Paula Storey; a brother Philip Dumont and wife Diana; and by loving nieces and nephews.
Nancy has chosen to donate her body to the University of Delaware to advance medical research. At a later time her remains will be interred with her late husband in the Veterans Cemetary in Amelia, Va.
