Nassau Valley Vineyards garners 27 new international medals

December 10, 2021

Most people know that Nassau Valley Vineyards in Lewes is the trailblazing pioneer of the entire craft beverage industry on the Delmarva Peninsula.

But many have no idea that Nassau Valley Vineyards has won more than 700 medals in international wine competitions since it opened in 1993. With the competition cycle for 2021 now completed, Nassau Valley brings home 27 new medals, including two double golds.

“Each year when we enter the international competition cycle, we send out our wines and let them speak for themselves, standing shoulder to shoulder with wines from around the world. Every medal we bring home gives us great pride as we continue to solidify Delaware’s presence on the world wine map. For example, our Cape Rosé just took a double gold at the Harvest Challenge Competition in Napa Valley. It won Best in Class over scores of other Rosés from some stellar producers on the West Coast and in Europe. We’re very proud of what we do here in Sussex County! It’s pretty incredible,” said Peggy Raley-Ward, NVV founder and co-owner.

The winery brought home two double golds, two golds, 15 silver and 8 bronze medals in total from six competitions, down from the usual 10 they enter in a year. Annual medal counts usually hit 45-50. Several competitions decided to pause their events again this year due to COVID.

The medal-winning wines included Cape Rosé, True Blue Blueberry, Indian River Red, Naked Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Peach Ambrosia, Laurel’s Red, Meadow’s Edge White, Apple Blossom and Delaware White. There were no wines entered by Nassau Valley that didn’t receive awards.

Nassau Valley invites everyone to come by for a tasting to try some of the medal winners. The wines make great holiday gifts and are perfect for entertaining. An array of wine accessories and gifts is also available.

Nassau Valley is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., every day, with last call for tastings at 4:30 p.m. Tastings are $10 per person, and include six wines and an etched crystal glass to take home.
