National storytelling champion returns to Delaware State Parks
Author and National Storytelling Champion, Bil Lepp has been weaving hilarious tall tales for 20 years. He has toured the country and will appear in Delaware at Delaware Seashore State Park Friday, July 25, at 7 p.m.
Lepp made his Delaware debut in December 2007, when he regaled audiences with his colorful, expertly woven and absolutely side-splitting tales. According to Matt Ritter, parks section manager of operations, maintenance and programming, “Delawareans owe it to themselves to spend an hour or so listening to and seeing Bil. His stories appeal to everyone, and they are just downright funny, too.”
Lepp has been a featured storyteller at the Smithsonian Folk Life Festival, The National Storytelling Festival in Tennessee and storytelling events from California to Pennsylvania. He has conducted storytelling workshops at the University of Richmond and the Washington Storyteller’s Theater in Washington, D.C. Mr. Lepp recently appeared for Comedy Central, added “Children’s Author” to his list of accomplishments, and was honored with the Storytelling Circle of Excellence Award.
His writing credits include titles such as The Armadillo Recon Unit and audio compilations such as Mayhem Dressed as an Eight Point Buck and Buck Meets the Monster Stick, co-authored with his brother, Paul. Lepp describes his work as mostly humorous and, he claims, mostly true. Lepp promises to brighten the mood and bring a smile to even the least amused person at any gathering. Fellow storyteller Barbara McBride Smith describes Lepp as, “the Wonder Bra of storytelling. He takes something small and insignificant and pushes it up into something really BIG and mighty interesting!”
Lepp’s shows are family-friendly and free with paid park admission. His performances are made possible in part by the Delaware Division of the Arts.
