To give Cape High students more opportunities for focused instruction, Cape High has welcomed Elizabeth Rolfes as assistant band director.

Rolfes said she was attracted to the Cape district because of the many opportunities available for students to perform in parades and festivals.

“The district, and the Cape community, seemed a very supportive and involved place for music and education as a whole,” she said.

Rolfes joins Band Director Chris Burkhart and Music Director Marian Sunnergren in Cape High’s instrumental music pathway. She will teach the percussion ensemble, piano and music technology courses, and will collaborate on the school symphonic band and wind ensemble.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and raised in Minnesota, Rolfes said she began playing piano and percussion at an early age; she also plays the guitar and ukulele.

Rolfes earned a bachelor’s degree in instrumental music education at University of Delaware, where she also was a member of the marching band front ensemble.

She lives in Georgetown and enjoys the beach, kayaking, baking, reading and playing music as a hobby.

“I’m excited to get started and get involved with school,” she said.
