New films to open at Cinema Art Theater Sept. 3

September 1, 2021

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “On Broadway” and “No Man of God,” starting Friday, Sept. 3.

A superb documentary on the contemporary history of Broadway from Academy Award-nominated director Oren Jacoby and the producers of “RBG,” “On Broadway’s” all-star cast tells the inside story of the last time Broadway came back from the brink. “On Broadway” shows how this revival helped save New York City thanks to innovative work, a new attention to inclusion, and the sometimes-uneasy balance between art and commerce. Interviews with many legends of stage and screen include Hugh Jackman, Helen Mirren, and Christine Baranski and take viewers behind the scenes of Broadway’s most groundbreaking and beloved shows, from “A Chorus Line” to “Hamilton.” Archival clips of iconic performances punctuate this hurly-burly ride through the main street of American show business.

A riveting drama based on actual transcripts, “No Man of God” plays upon the rapport built between a federal agent and one of the most notorious criminals of the late 20th century. In 1980, Ted Bundy, played by Luke Kirby, was sentenced to death by electrocution for killing 30 women. In the years that followed, he agreed to disclose the details of his crimes, but only to one man. During the early days of the agency’s criminal profiling unit, FBI analyst Bill Hagmaier, played by Elijah Wood, met with the incarcerated Bundy in the hopes of understanding the psychology of the serial killer and providing closure for the victims’ families. As Hagmaier delves into Bundy’s dark and twisted mind, a strange and complicated relationship develops that neither man expected.

Admission is $8 for members and $11 for nonmembers. For screening times and to purchase tickets, go to rehobothfilm.com. Customers are encouraged to purchase admission online. If seats are available, admission can be purchased at the theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
