July 28, 2023

Delaware State Police have arrested a New Jersey man for allegedly shoplifting shoes from the Nike outlet in Rehoboth Beach.

Police say Maicol Matias-Pena, 22, of Bridgeton, N.J., took part in two separate shoplifting incidents at the store. The first occurred May 31 when Matian-Pena and another man went into the Nike outlet and hid 28 pairs of shoes in two shopping bags and left without paying. Police said the second incident occurred June 29 when the men returned to the store and took nine additional pairs of shoes. According to police, the 37 pairs of shoes are worth nearly $4,000.

Using surveillance video, police identified Matias-Pena as one of the two suspects. He was arrested by New Jersey State Police July 15, and extradited to Delaware July 27, where he was charged with felony shoplifting over $1,500, shoplifting under $1,500 and organized retail crime.

Matias-Pena was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 in Georgetown and was released on $2,000 unsecured bond.
