New music director joins Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware

November 4, 2018

The Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware announced the appointment of Julie Keefer as the new director of music ministries as of Oct. 8.

Keefer’s appointment followed an extensive search after the previous director, Dr. Marcelle Schiff, stepped down in June.

In her new position, Keefer will be responsible for Sunday worship music. A Milton resident, Keefer comes from a rich and diverse musical background with more than 25 years of choral and worship experience. She currently serves as choral and music director at Mariner Middle School. Her prior experience includes serving as praise team music director at Epworth United Methodist Church.

Keefer has had extensive training in the musical arts. In 1992, she earned a bachelor’s degree in music education with a concentration in piano from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

The Rev. Michelle Collins said, "We are very excited to have Julie on board with us. She brings refreshing energy and a new vision for our music program and worship experiences, as well as a great spirit of collaboration. I can only imagine how the spirituality of our worship services will be enhanced with her at the helm of our music program and choir."

UUSD is a welcoming and progressive spiritual community with a mission to nurture spiritual growth, embrace diversity, work for justice and strive for a loving world. For more information and directions, go to uussd.org or email the Rev. Michelle Collins at minister@uussd.org.
