Dewey budget committee to meet June 28
The Dewey Beach Budget and Finance Committee will meet at 3:30 p.m., Friday, June 28, at the Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave. Members will discuss and possibly vote to recommend to commissioners an appropriate level of town surplus funds to achieve and maintain, and new revenue stream opportunities.

Milton council to meet July 1
Milton Town Council will meet at 6:30 p.m., Monday, July 1, at Milton library, to discuss the acquisition of 614 Federal St. for the purposes of future water infrastructure. Council will hold a public hearing and later vote on an ordinance related to the board of adjustment. 

In new business, council will hear a request from Carla D’Onofrio to partition her lot at 117 Collins St. An appointment will be made to the board of adjustment, and council will discuss a recommendation on a cross-connection control plan. Council will also discuss a task order related to a water main upgrade at Atlantic Street. Finally, there will be a request from the Milton Theatre related to closing Union Street for the annual Zombie Fest. 

Demonstration set against centers July 4
A public demonstration in opposition to the government’s treatment of men, women and children held in U.S. detention centers will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, July 4, on the southbound sidewalk along Route 1 from IHOP to Shuttle Road.

Rehoboth law oversight committee to meet July 3
The Rehoboth Beach Law Oversight Committee has scheduled a meeting for 9 a.m., Wednesday, July 3, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for a discussion on converting criminal sanctions of the zoning code to civil penalties and a continued discussion of the city’s tree ordinance. Sussex council awards $25,154 in grants
During its last meeting of fiscal year 2019, Sussex County Council awarded councilmanic grants totaling more than $25,000. The following grants were awarded: $500 to Eastern Shore AFRAM Festival in Seaford; $8,336 to Fort Miles Historical Association for its Lighthouse Reach Overlook project; $1,000 to Primeros Pasos Learning Center in Georgetown for playground equipment; $2,318 to Grace-N-Mercy in Greenwood for summer camp expenses; $3,000 to Woodbridge High School Marine Corps JROTC Booster Club for its annual Halloween 5K Run/Walk; $2,500 to Town of Laurel for its Market Square Park bandstand improvement project; $2,000 to ITN Southern Delaware for its Quality of Life: Aging in Place program; and $5,500 to Millsboro Historical Society for Godwin School maintenance and repair expenses.

Sussex government offices closing on July 4
Sussex County government offices will be closed Thursday, July 4, and reopen at 8:30 a.m., Friday, July 5.

Sussex County Council taking summer break
Sussex County Council will not meet Tuesday, July 2, or Tuesday, July 9. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 16, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown.

Volunteers invited to SDARJ meeting July 9
The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice will hold a Town Hall Meeting Tuesday, July 9, 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Trinity Faith Christian Center, 15516 New Road, in Lewes. The meeting will center on how the alliance should proceed in realizing its mission “to educate, inform and advocate for racial and social justice.”

Welcoming input from the community, committee chairs will highlight their accomplishments in outreach, education and scholarships, advocacy, fundraising, and the SDARJ Book Club. The alliance invites new volunteers to join them as they refine their priorities and plan their program for the coming year.

Rehoboth Beach City Hall closed July 4
In observance of Independence Day, Rehoboth Beach City Hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave., will be closed Thursday, July 4. The city will be hosting its annual fireworks show Wednesday, July 3, but city hall will have normal hours that day, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Residential trash pickup will remain on the regular schedule. Henlopen Acres Town Hall closed July 4
In observance of Independence Day, Henlopen Acres Town Hall, 104 Tidewaters, will be closed Thursday, July 4.
