Public hearing on school financial reporting set Oct. 11
The Delaware Department of Education is seeking public input on developing a standardized school-level financial report. The department will hold public hearings in all Delaware counties this fall. The Sussex County public hearing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11, at Lewes Public Library, 111 Adams Ave. The federal Every Student Succeeds Act and Senate Bill 172, passed by the 149th General Assembly this year, require a statewide approach to define and report school-level expenditures.

The report will enable school leaders and the public to compare per-pupil spending across Delaware. Department of Education officials said they will develop the report with school and community input, and will begin reporting school-level per-pupil expenditures in December 2019. Public comment at the hearing will be limited to five minutes per person.  Written comments will be accepted at the hearing. Comments can also be emailed by Oct. 12, to jennifer.roussell@doe.k12.de.us with SB 172 Public Comment in the subject line.
