PFLAG seeks volunteers for Oct. 2
The Delaware Pride Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 2, on the streets around The Green near Legislative Hall in Dover.
PFLAG-Rehoboth Beach will be at spot A21, along Martin Luther King Blvd. North. Volunteers are needed to help set up at 9 a.m. and staff the booth, promoting the chapter and answering questions. Dewey mats to be temporarily removed
All beach access mats over the dunes in Dewey Beach will be temporarily removed during the week of Oct. 3 to allow the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control to begin replacing existing dune fencing with post-and-rope fence in the coming weeks.
The project will begin on the street side of the dune, with the ocean side being completed later.
Mats will not be reinstalled until the the dune fence is complete.
Post and rope rather than traditional sand fencing will be used to lessen the accumulation of sand that is promoted by wooden slat fencing, said DNREC Shoreline and Waterway Program Administrator Mike Powell.
Rehoboth to host workshop Oct. 4
Rehoboth Beach commissioners have scheduled a workshop for 9 a.m., Monday, Oct. 4. The meeting will be conducted virtually, with an anchor location of Rehoboth Beach City Hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for continued discussion on proposed changes to residential trash and recycling collection, wireless technology on the Boardwalk, the future of the Dolle’s sign, and the Baltimore/Wilmington Avenue Streetscape project.
The agenda also calls for an end-of-summer update by staff. Special Rehoboth meeting Oct. 4
Rehoboth Beach commissioners have scheduled a special meeting for 1 p.m., Monday, Oct. 4, to discuss and consider approval of City Manager Sharon Lynn’s annual goals for the current evaluation period of Fiscal Year 2022, which began April 1 and runs through March 31, 2022. The agenda says there could be an executive session.

No Sussex council meeting Oct. 5
Sussex County Council will not meet Tuesday, Oct. 5. The next regularly scheduled meeting is at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 12, in the county administration office, 2 The Circle, Georgetown.
Public hearing set Oct. 4 in Lewes
Lewes Mayor and City Council will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m., Monday, Oct. 4, regarding a change to city code related to fences, walls, hedges and shrubbery in the historic district. Lewes public hearings set Oct. 5
Lewes Mayor and City Council will hold two public hearings beginning at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 5. The first hearing is regarding the site plan for Fancy Pants Holdings, which is planning to construct a mixed-use building on Kings Highway at the existing location of Aquamarine. The plan includes retail space on the first floor with apartments on the second.
The second public hearing will be held immediately following. For that, council is seeking input on the site plan for Lewes Brewing Company, which is planned for Savannah Road adjacent to the Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail crossing. SDARJ supports Bans Off Our Bodies Oct. 2
Members of the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice will speak at demonstrations for reproductive rights at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 2, in Seaford and Wilmington as part of a nationwide march in defense of reproductive freedom.
Organizers of the Sussex County rally are planning a car caravan beginning at Delaware Tech in Georgetown at 12:30 p.m. and traveling to the intersection of Bridgeville Highway and Rawlins Drive in Seaford, across from the post office, for the 1:30 p.m. event.
Sponsoring partners include Women's March Sussex - Delaware, Women's March Wilmington, Delaware National Organization for Women, Planned Parenthood of Delaware, Pro Choice with Heart, and the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice.
Seaford hosts are Matt Bittle and Melissa Froemming.
Women’s reproductive rights are in jeopardy. Before the Supreme Court reconvenes Monday, Oct. 4, thousands of people will take to the streets all across the country to rally for abortion justice. Women's March and over 150 coalition partners will be mobilizing Oct. 2 in every single state and Washington, D.C., to defend reproductive rights.
