Henlopen Acres evaluating marina dredging proposal

The deadline for bid submissions to dredge the Henlopen Acres Marina past Oct. 15. In an email Oct. 21, Town Manager Tom Roth said one bid for $170,000 was submitted from Droney Marine Construction of Millville. He said the town budgeted $160,000 for the project. Town officials are evaluating the proposal and will make a decision whether to award the contract be the end of the month, said Roth. The marina was last dredged in 2012, removing 4,000 cubic yards of spoils at a cost of $200,000.

Lewes BPW meets Oct. 28

The Lewes Board of Public Works will meet at 4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 28, at city hall and via Zoom. The group will discuss revisions to the BPW handbook and changes to the bylaws to allow for videoconferencing. Directors will consider the creation of a finance committee and discuss updates to BPW policies. A link to the meeting can be found at lewesbpw.delaware.gov.

Lewes public hearing set Oct. 26

Lewes Mayor and City Council will hold a public hearing at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 26, at the Rollins Community Center and via Zoom. The hearing is regarding an ordinance to amend several portions of city code, including building height, off-street parking, streets and sidewalks, access to city streets and alleys and other items. Lewes subdivision subcommittee meets

The Subdivision Code Subcommittee of the Lewes Planning Commission will meet at 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 28, at city hall and via Zoom. The group will continue to discuss potential changes to the subdivision and land development code. A link to the meeting can be found on the agenda at lewes.civicweb.net

Rehoboth audit committee to meet

The Rehoboth Beach Audit Committee has scheduled a meeting for 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 29. The meeting will be conducted virtually. The agenda calls for a presentation of the city audit for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2021.

Cape Henlopen school board meets Oct. 28

The Cape Henlopen school board will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 28 at Milton Elementary School. Members will possibly vote on the Cape High 2023 school trip to London and on a request for an exception to the bus stop regulation. Presentations will be given on the unit count and class size waiver and the Leader in Me program in district elementary schools. Terrapin Island appeal on Sussex agenda

Sussex County Council will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 26, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Included on the agenda is a discussion and possible action on an appeal of the Sussex County Planning and Zoning Commission’s preliminary approval of the Terrapin Island subdivision. Savannah Road sidewalk work begins

DelDOT contractor Mumford & Miller Concrete will begin construction of sidewalks along the south side of Savannah Road between Quaker Road and the Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail in Lewes on Monday, Nov. 1, with work anticipated to be complete by the end of January 2022. Improvements include ADA curbs and sidewalks, drainage improvements, water main services and paving. Nighttime lane closures from 6 p.m. until 7 a.m. and shoulder closures will occur.

Sussex Republican Women’s Club meeting Oct. 27

The Sussex County Republican Women’s Club will hold its final dinner meeting of the year Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Mulligan’s Pointe, 22426 Sussex Pines Road, Georgetown. Members and guests may check in at 4:45 p.m.; the meeting begins at 5, and dinner cost is $35. Guests are welcome. Make reservations by calling Kris at 518-728-4826.

The keynote speaker will be Sussex County Council President Michael J. Vincent, who will update members and guests on council’s responses to current affairs and pending issues. The Sussex County Republican Women’s Club mission is to assist in the election of  Republican candidates, act as an advocate for the Republican Party’s principles, and empower women to participate in the political process.  SWRWC has been actively engaging women in the political process for almost seven decades. Dewey holding Thanksgiving food drive

The Town of Dewey Beach is accepting Thanksgiving food drive donations at town hall, 105 Rodney Ave., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, and 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday. Items accepted include pumpkin pie mix, stuffing mix, white rice, boxed potatoes, mac and cheese, canned goods and grocery store gift cards. Items will be distributed to local families in need. DART offers free Sea Witch bus rides

DART Transit will offer free bus rides on Route 201 for the Sea Witch Festival from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 30. Parking will be free at both the Rehoboth Beach and Lewes Park & Ride locations, where riders can board the Route 201 bus to downtown Rehoboth for the festival. For more information on Route 201, Park & Ride locations, and departure times, visit the Routes and Schedules page at dartfirststate.com.
