UUSD to meet Jan. 4
The Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware will hold a service at 10 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 4, with Looking for the Light as the topic. The Rev. Heather Rion Starr said, “On this Epiphany Sunday, we will remember versions of the Three Kings/Wise Men’s story. We will hear reflections on getting lost and finding our ways, and we will each be gifted with a fresh new star for 2026. ” Learn more at uussd.org.
Lewes council to hold public hearing Jan. 5
Lewes Mayor and City Council will hold a public hearing at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 5, at the Rollins Center. The panel will take comments on a site plan for changes to 815 Kings Hwy.
Milton to resume talks on districts
Milton Town Council will resume discussions on whether or not to create districts for council seats at its regular meeting, 6:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 5, at Milton library.
While no concrete proposals have been made, the issue of council districts was first discussed in October when John Laznik of the University of Delaware’s Center for Applied Demography and Survey Research gave a presentation on the process for establishing districts. At that time, Laznik discussed potential three-district and four-district proposals. In addition, council will discuss a fee waiver related to the Children’s Book Festival in May and a final plat plan approval for a proposed Dairy Queen.
Rehoboth Beach to meet Jan. 5
Rehoboth Beach commissioners will meet at 9 a.m., Monday, Jan. 5, at city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda includes a discussion and possible vote on amending city code related to special events and awarding of the annual water meter replacement contract. The agenda also includes a discussion on recommendations from the city’s Streets and Safety Advisory Committee regarding synchronizing city function implementation dates into two seasonal periods, in-season and off-season.

Dewey Marketing Committee to meet
The Dewey Beach Marketing Committee will meet at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 6, at the town lifesaving station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave.
The group will discuss and possibly take action on a number of agenda items, including town hall fundraising initiatives and activities, the new Neighbor Network communication system, outreach and planning for a possible University of Delaware Alumni Week, and renter welcome packets and chamber of commerce outreach. Members will also discuss the town’s social media platform activity, and community and business outreach.

Lewes BOA to meet Jan. 6
The Lewes Board of Adjustment will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 6, at city hall.
The agenda includes consideration of variance requests for 18 Filly Lane, 30 Sussex Drive and 230 Abbott Park Lane.

VIA to host art journaling session Jan. 8
Due to building renovations, the Rehoboth Beach Public Library winter programming schedule is limited. The Village Improvement Association will provide meeting space for New Year, New Ideas, an art journaling session, at 10 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 8, at the VIA Clubhouse, 415 N. Boardwalk, Rehoboth Beach. Focusing on meditation, inspiration and transformation, attendees are free to paint, collage, journal and sketch using a wide variety of art supplies and materials provided. Delaware Dignity Project seeks packing volunteers Jan. 19
The Delaware Dignity Project (formerly I Support the Girls Delaware) seeks volunteers to help pack personal items for women in need on Martin Luther King Jr. Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday, Jan. 19, at the Cambria Hotel Rehoboth Beach.
Participants will help pack essential items including menstrual products, bras, underwear and socks to be distributed to individuals in need across Delaware. Donations of items are appreciated but not required, and lunch will be provided. The event is open to individuals, families and groups. Anyone who can count to 20 can also help pack.

Legion Auxiliary seeks seeks donations, volunteers Jan. 19
American Legion Auxiliary Unit 28 invites the community to take part in its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Monday, Jan. 19, at American Legion Post 28, 31768 Legion Road, Millsboro. In support of veterans at the Wilmington VA Medical Center, the auxiliary is collecting and packing donations of new, unopened items like long-sleeve T-shirts (sizes L and XL), sweatpants (L and XL), laundry pods, men’s and women’s white socks, and full-size shampoo and liquid soap. VIA to host Delaware Humanities speaker Jan. 20
Due to building renovations, the Rehoboth Beach Public Library winter programming schedule is limited. The Village Improvement Association will provide meeting space for “The Right to Lie,” a Delaware Humanities speaker event, at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the VIA Clubhouse, 415 N. Boardwalk, Rehoboth Beach. Presenter Joan DelFattore, PhD, will demonstrate how and why untruthful speech – even political speech – is technically protected under the First Amendment of the Constitution. DelFattore will guide a friendly discussion about both historical and modern policies regarding censorship so Americans can become more familiar with the constitutional protections surrounding the right to free speech.
