Vietnam War Veterans Day set March 29

The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1105 of Sussex County will commemorate National Vietnam War Veterans Day with a public ceremony at 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 29, at the Village of College Park by DRB Homes in Georgetown. Refreshments will be served.

The national observance honors Vietnam War veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice. Georgetown Mayor Bill West will be a guest speaker. Sussex Central High School JROTC will assist with presentation of colors and reading the names of Sussex County fallen heroes engraved on the Vietnam War monument in Georgetown.

Chapter 1105 also will describe outreach activities to help veterans be aware of benefits. A Veterans Administration representative will be present to supply information and answer benefit questions.

Lewes tree group meeting March 28

The Lewes Planning Commission Tree Ordinance Subcommittee will meet at 4 p.m., Tuesday, March 28 at the Rollins Center.

Lewes mayor, council workshop March 30

Lewes mayor and city council will meet at 9:30 a.m., Thursday, March 30 at city hall for a workshop and special meeting.

Officials may vote on replacing the HVAC system in the municipal building, a fee waiver request for 909 Pilottown Road, concession services for Roosevelt Inlet, the proposal to name an unnamed tributary Lackhove Creek, and proceeding with assessment services from Pearson’s Appraisal Service, Inc.

Mayor and city council will continue to discuss proposed changes to the City of Lewes Charter, a sea-level rise impact real estate disclosure, recommendations from the Lewes Planning Commission Tree Subcommittee, a city-wide parking study, and an update on the Savannah Road Master Plan.

Under news business, agenda items include allowing visual recognition of donations of park amenities from for-profit entities, the purchase of three police vehicles, an ordinance regarding manufactured homes, and launchings for kayak and paddle board at Savannah and Johnnie Walker beaches. 

Lewes BPW meeting slated for March 29

The Lewes Board of Public Works will meet publicly at 4 p.m., Wednesday, March 29 at city hall following a closed-door executive session.

Officials will continue to talk about the operating and maintenance budget for 2023-24, the 5-year capital budget, and pollution insurance.

New topics will include lawn care contract, the size and location of a new water main under the Lewes-Rehoboth Beach Canal, a date for household hazardous waste and drug take-back day, and a proposal from UFS for a cost-of-service study. 

Rehoboth Boardwalk committee to meet

The Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk and Beach Committee has scheduled a meeting for 9 a.m., Friday, March 31. Agenda includes discussion on proposed wind farms and the historical significant of the Boardwalk. The agenda also includes discussion on a recommendation from the city’s Animal Issues Committee about installation of pet waste bag dispensers and the possibility of allowing dogs to run free on the beach.  For information, call  302-227-6181 or email information@cityofrehoboth.com.
