14th District Dems to meet April 13
Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings will address the 14th RD Delaware Democratic Party Committee Wednesday, April 13. The meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. with a dutch treat dinner at Iron Hill Brewery on Route 1 north of Rehoboth Beach, and the hybrid Zoom/in-person portion will begin at 6 p.m. Committee business will be discussed following Jennings’ presentation. All registered Democrats are invited, and there is no charge to participate.
Attendees will pay their own dinner checks.

DelDOT plans new Route 9 traffic signal
Work will soon get underway to install a new traffic signal at the intersection of Route 9 (Lewes-Georgetown Highway) and Old Vine Boulevard at the Vineyards entrance. Installation includes new mast poles, mast arms, cabinet, signal heads, pedestrian signals, a new crosswalk across Route 9, conduit, junction wells and loop detectors. Installation will take 40 days to complete, depending on weather. Most construction work will be done outside the travel lanes, with restrictions mostly limited to shoulder closures or lane shifts. Nighttime 15-minute road closures will be required for installation of mast arms.
Special Rehoboth meeting set April 12
Rehoboth Beach commissioners have scheduled a special meeting at 9 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, for continued discussion on possible revisions to the city’s tree code.
The meeting will be conducted in person in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. A full agenda, meeting materials and a livestream are accessible at cityofrehoboth.civicweb.net. Dewey charter, code committee to meet
The Dewey Beach Charter and Code Committee will meet virtually at 6 p.m., Monday, April 11. Members will discuss the progress of work regarding Chapter 185, Zoning, of town code as well as next areas of focus and member assignments. A link to the meeting is available at townofdeweybeach.com.
Law enforcement transparency is topic
A virtual panel discussion will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Monday, April 11, on Increased Transparency: Benefits to Law Enforcement and Delaware’s Diverse Communities, sponsored by Delaware Coalition for Open Government, Delaware Press Association and Network Delaware.
John Kowalko III will moderate the discussion and Q&A session to follow. Panelists are Assistant Public Defender Misty Seemans; state majority whip Sen. S. Elizabeth Lockman, D-Wilmington West; and award-winning journalist Amanda Fries.

Lewes Mayor and City Council meets April 11
Lewes Mayor and City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m., Monday, April 11, at city hall and via Zoom. The group will consider an amendment to the city’s noise ordinance to allow for outdoor entertainment at restaurants that serve beer, wine or spirits. They will also set a public hearing on complete replacement of the subdivision and land development code, consider a minor subdivision application for DuPont Avenue, and possibly vote to approve a Savannah Road water/sewer project. Officials will consider a recommendation from the parks and recreation commission regarding revisions to the recreation activities policy, consider amendments to the city’s code of conduct, and discuss a request from Cape Henlopen School District for an easement to construct a sidewalk in George H.P. Smith Park relating to the future middle school project. Council will also discuss a letter to Sussex County regarding the rezoning of the Mitchell Farm at the corner of Kings Highway and Gills Neck Road.
Lewes resiliency committee to meet
The Lewes Executive Committee on Resiliency will meet at 4 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, at city hall and via Zoom. The group will continue discussion about the framework for a resiliency fund. A link to the meeting can be found at lewes.civicweb.net.
Spring into fitness demos at senior center April 29
The Cape Henlopen Senior Center invites community members ages 50 and above to try out its exercise and dance fitness classes demonstrations during a free event from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, Friday, April 29, at 11 Christian St. Rehoboth Beach. Attendees can participate in classes that are taught weekly at the center and see which ones are the right fit for them.
Classes include cardio drumming, LaBlast Fitness, arthritis exercise, sit and get fit, chair yoga, tai chi, fitness circuit training and line dancing. A light lunch will be served following the program. Registration is required by Monday, April 25, at 302-227-2055. Held in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, the center’s activities are good for participants’ health, wellness and fitness.
The center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Older adults may stop by and visit to see what the center can do to brighten up their lives.
