News Briefs 7/19/22

July 19, 2022
Lewes-Georgetown Trail closed July 20-22

Herbicide application will require closure of the Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail from Cool Spring Road to Savannah Road from 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 20 to 5 a.m., Thursday, July 21, pending weather. Rain date alternate closure is 7 p.m., July 21 to 5 a.m., Friday, July 22.

The Delaware Department of Transportation and its contractor apply herbicides registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for vegetation-control purposes. The EPA has determined through its testing and review process that when these herbicides are applied according to label instructions, they pose no unreasonable risks to human health, wildlife or the environment.

Lewes BPW to test hydrant flows July 19

Lewes Board of Public Works’ Water Department will conduct hydrant flow tests Tuesday, July 19. Customers may experience low water pressure or discolored water for up to 24 hours. Customers are asked to run water on cold for 10 to 15 minutes until it clears. The BPW also recommends not doing laundry during this time.

Hydrant tests are necessary because the city now requires all new one- and two-family dwellings to have a fire suppression system installed during construction. This requires the BPW to certify hydrant locations, system flow, static/residual and pitot pressure, and the availability of water flow before a building permit is granted.

For more information, call the city at 302-645-7777 or the BPW at 302-645-6228.
