DelDOT update on Sussex agenda
Sussex County Council will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 24, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Included on the agenda is an update on the Delaware Department of Transportation capital transportation program. Rehoboth shade tree commission to meet
The Rehoboth Beach Parks & Shade Tree Commission will meet virtually at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 23, with public access via the city’s civic web portal.
The agenda calls for an appeal hearing for the property at 21 Saint Lawrence St. related to the removal of a loblolly pine located on the property line between the city right-of-way and the property.
People wishing to speak must preregister by emailing City Secretary Ann Womack, awomack@cityofrehoboth.com, at least 24 hours prior to the meeting.

Rehoboth BOA meeting canceled
The Rehoboth Beach Board of Adjustment meeting scheduled for Monday, Aug. 23, has been canceled. According to a city press release, the cancellation resulted from a scheduling conflict.
Lewes public hearing set Aug. 23
Lewes Mayor and City Council will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m., Monday, Aug. 23, at the Rollins Community Center and via Zoom. City officials are seeking public comment on a proposal to require fire-suppression systems in all new residences. A link to the meeting can be found on the agenda at lewes.civicweb.net.
Lewes resiliency committee to meet
The Lewes Executive Committee on Resiliency will meet at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 24, at city hall and via Zoom. The group will receive a presentation from Dave Warga, environmental scientist/state flood plain manager for the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control’s Division of Watershed Stewardship.
He will give an overview on flooding, including the causes and impacts.
The committee will also receive a presentation from Dr. Gina Tonn, an engineer with DNREC’s Division of Watershed Stewardship, on DNREC’s flood mapping tool/coastal inundation maps. A link to the meeting can be found on the agenda at lewes.civicweb.net.
Lewes Board of Ethics meets Aug. 24
The Lewes Board of Ethics will meet at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 24, at city hall. The group will discuss in executive session complaints received alleging violations of the city’s code of conduct. The meeting is not open to the public.
It’s no bull: Traffic delays Aug. 21 on Route 1
Motorists can expect delays and increased pedestrian activity Saturday, Aug. 21, on northbound and southbound Route 1 in Dewey Beach for the 24th annual Running of the Bull. The festival will begin at The Starboard, 2009 Coastal Highway.
Route 1 traffic will be stopped for approximately five minutes at 2 p.m., as runners leave The Starboard and run along the highway to the beach.
DelDOT’s Transportation Management Center will be adjusting traffic signals to assist motorists traveling through Dewey Beach. Variable message boards will also be posted.
