Sussex Democratic Jamboree set Sept. 12

Sussex County Democrats will hold their annual beach BBQ Jamboree fundraiser at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 12, at Cape Henlopen State Park’s main beach pavilion. SCD Chair Jane Hovington invites everyone to a day at the beach celebrating Democratic Party unity.

Lewes Mayor and City Council meet Sept. 13

Lewes Mayor and City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 13, in city hall and via Zoom. The group will consider final approval for Olde Town at White’s Pond major subdivision, which is proposed for 85 single-family homes on 37 acres along Freeman Highway near the intersection with Monroe Avenue. Lewes Planning Commission recommended approval at its July meeting. 

City council will also consider an ordinance requiring fire suppression in all new construction as well as site-plan approvals for Lewes Brewing Company on Savannah Road and a mixed-use building owned by Fancy Pants Holdings LLC on Kings Highway. Both site plans received positive recommendations from the city’s joint site development review committee in August. 

Council will set a public hearing regarding changes to fences in the historic district, consider a change in fee structure for encroachment licenses, and consider a recommendation from the board of ethics to create a committee to review the city’s code of conduct.

Lewes planners meet Sept. 15

The Lewes Planning Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 15, at the Rollins Community Center and via Zoom. The group will consider a recommendation to mayor and city council regarding a minor subdivision of a parcel at the corner of Oregon and Bay avenues. Commissioners will also consider a recommendation regarding an ordinance related to floodplain regulations. Materials and a link to the online meeting can be found at lewes.civicweb.net

RD20 Democratic Committee to meet

The Delaware 20th Representative District Democratic Committee will meet virtually at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 16, via Zoom. 

Delaware Department of Transportation Secretary Nicole Majeski will address transportation issues in Delaware and specifically in Sussex County.  As DelDOT secretary, she oversees the development and implementation of a six-year capital program of over $4 billion.

Any registered Democrat in Delaware is welcome to participate in the committee meeting, but nonmembers must register by emailing rd20.deldems@gmail.com with their legal name and street address for verification purposes.

Dewey BoA holds public hearing

The Dewey Beach Board of Adjustment will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 15, at the Dewey Beach Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave., on a variance request to reduce the 12-foot rear setback to five feet on a parcel at 109 Houston St. The notice is available at townofdeweybeach.com.

Dewey budget committee to meet

The Dewey Beach Budget and Finance Committee will meet at 4 p.m., Friday, Sept. 17, at the Dewey Beach Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave. 

Members will review and discuss budget performance to date, and may possibly vote to recommend new revenue stream opportunities to town council. The agenda is available at townofdeweybeach.com.

Dewey comp plan committee to meet

The Dewey Beach Comprehensive Plan Committee will meet at 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 17, at the Dewey Beach Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave. 

Members will prioritize issues in need of attention and may vote to make recommendations to town council. The agenda is available at townofdeweybeach.com.
