Nina Mickelsen art featured at Peninsula Gallery

October 7, 2021

The Peninsula Gallery spotlights abstract pop-artist Nina Mickelsen as its October featured artist of the month.

As a Finland native, Mickelsen’s artistic roots are in Nordic design – clean, bright colors, bold shapes, crisp, strong lines – conveying energy, strength and motion. She draws her inspiration from nature but also from contemporary design. The works being featured this month celebrate the subtle changes in wind-blown sea grass. With two recreations for two variety of grass, Mickelsen forces the eye to hyper-fixate on the intense details.

Mickelsen came to art later in life after a long career in international business across Europe and the United States. Being curiosity-driven, she studied printmaking, painting and digital art while completing a certificate in graphic design at the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, D.C. She already had received a doctorate in business administration. In 2008, she started showing her work publicly and has since participated in juried art shows along the East Coast from Connecticut to Florida. Mickelsen works and lives in Lewes, and teaches screen printing in her studio.

Four of Nina Mickelsen’s abstract works are on display throughout the month of October.

Featured Artist of the Month is a new event produced by Peninsula Gallery to highlight the work created by different artists. The lineup of participants includes some of the gallery’s resident artists, repeat exhibitors and artists entirely new to the space.

To see the featured artist's special collections, visit the gallery each month. For behind-the-scenes information about each artist’s background and creative process, follow Peninsula Gallery’s Instagram and Facebook pages.

The gallery is located in the Shops at the Beacon, 520 East Savannah Road, Lewes.
