The filing deadline for candidates in the mayoral election came and went with no one stepping up to challenge Lewes Mayor Ted Becker.
Becker has never been challenged since taking over for Jim Ford in 2014. There hasn’t been a mayoral election in Lewes since 1998, and no election for city council since 2014.
Becker was a city council member for 10 years before becoming mayor. He was deputy mayor, 2011-14.
He bought a home in Lewes in 1981 and moved to the city full time in 2000. He is the managing partner of Stewart Becker Properties. He previously worked with the U.S. Division of Special Education, the U.S. Department of Education and served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves from 1978 to 1996.
Becker’s new term will run until 2022.
