Cape keeper Jordan Willey prepares to make one of her five saves in the Vikings win.The Cape and Caesar Rodney JV soccer teams collided May 5, in a battle of undefeated and unscored upon teams. Only one team could leave the turf of Legends Stadium with that record still intact. Cape was that team.
Vikings sophomore Alisa Tsirtsan took a pass from Alexis Puddlcombe at the three-minute mark, dribbled up the sideline and put a right-footed kick into the twine behind CR keeper Olivia Herling to score the only goal of the game.
"We showed up tonight ready for a real challenge," said Cape JV coach Madison Nichols. "We had only been tested one other time this season against Odessa, and the girls were so excited. They played their hearts out with so much effort and grit."
Nichols said the players supported each other from the beginning of warmups through the final whistle.
"CR is a great team and a big test for us," she said. "We showed up and buried a goal early. Our defense shined the rest of the match with Sophia Rahn and Bree Terhune holding it down in front of keeper Jordan Willey. I enjoy every moment coaching these girls, and the future is so bright for Cape girls' soccer."
The Vikings are 11-0 with three games left. They have outscored their opponents 33-0. They travel to Georgetown Thursday, May 7, to face Sussex Academy.
