Celebrate Excellent Care

Nurses and certified nursing assistants deserve high praise

May 11, 2017

This past February, I was admitted to Beebe Healthcare via the Emergency Department. My stay of five days was the longest I have ever been admitted to a hospital. This is not my first emergency condition, as I also experienced a situation in 2004 which required me to be admitted to the hospital with subsequent necessary surgery. However, this is my first opportunity to express my gratitude in writing for the professionalism and genuine sincerity of the staff that served me.

I would be hard pressed to find another staff of nurses and doctors that could have provided me with the exceptional care I received. My recent admittance was one of extreme pain and discomfort, yet the on-duty staff was as cordial and caring as any I have had the fortune to meet.

The compassion, confidence and inordinate amount of patience shown by all, considering the physical conditions I was experiencing at that time, represented the utmost professional care and comfort that any patient would be thankful to receive.

Having been admitted for a duration of five days, I was also able to observe the team's generosity of caring for two separate roommates. Often, when we are put into conditions that may be beyond our control, we can feel somewhat insecure and anxious. The staff that attended to my needs and concerns, as well as to the other patients in our room, was incredibly considerate and compassionate. From the day to evening staff, the priority for the comfort of patients was exhibited to the highest level. In actions and words, these nurses demonstrated the most upbeat, caring manner and positive attitude in all the ways they performed their duties.

A heartfelt thank you to the following RNs and CNAs from the Women's Health floor that were so gracious to me: Mary Koyanagi, RN; Latoya Thomas, RN; Kadeisha Custis, CNA; Shanna Andes, RN; Megan Fidler, RN; Kayla Duffie, CNA; Chelsea Bailey, CNA: Jennifer Gray, RN; Lydia Martin, RN; Terra Marvel, CNA; Megan Ritter, CNA.

Beebe Healthcare recognizes National Nurses Week, May 6-12. Nurses are the lifeblood of a healthcare system in that they have the unique opportunity to touch patients at every level of care.

'Beebe Healthcare is proud to celebrate the role our nurses play in delivering the highest level of quality and patient experience for patients,' said Jeffrey M. Fried, FACHE, president and CEO, Beebe Healthcare. 'All of us at Beebe recognize the essential role our nurses play in our care delivery system. They are at the bedside 24 hours a day, caring for patients in their homes, working in the physician offices and other ambulatory settings, and engaging individuals through our Population Health efforts to become more involved and responsible for their own health. We couldn't do what we do each day, caring for our community, without our nurses. Our nurses take great pride in what they do to make Beebe Healthcare the outstanding healthcare system it is today.'

Each year, Beebe Medical Foundation hosts the biggest party of the summer, the Beebe Beach Bash! Beebe's guests will take over a docked Cape May-Lewes Ferry to enjoy The Fabulous Greaseband, dancing, dining, auctions, and boardwalk games. This year's Beach Bash will fund Beebe Healthcare's Emergency Department. We are committed to providing quality care to our patients, and this event will allow us to offer the most advanced technology to save and change lives.
