Local men with dementia from the PACE Your Life program in Milford recently helped create care bags for the homeless.
PACE Your Life is a Medicare alternative program that helps people meet their healthcare needs in the community instead of going into a nursing home or care facility. The program is based in the Milford Wellness Village.
Men from PACE living with dementia are making a meaningful impact for people who are homeless or home insecure. They gather essential items such as ponchos, hand sanitizer, emergency blankets, nonperishable snacks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, etc., to assemble into care kits. Some of the donations were provided by Tidal Health, Beef Jerky Outlet, friends and neighbors.
This heartwarming initiative demonstrates the power of compassion, purpose and community involvement, regardless of life’s challenges. The program started this project in the winter months of 2024, and it continues today. The first delivery of PACE Pals’ Care Bags this year was to people who attended the Nov. 20 Thanksgiving celebration at Jusst Sooup.
This project helps participants living with dementia by stimulating their cognitive functions, using their fine motor skills, providing a source of focus and building a sense of productivity. More importantly, this project gives them a sense of accomplishment and giving back to society.
